First introduced in the 1970’s, the Super Decathlon is the final and most powerful aircraft in the American champion line of aircraft, including an upgraded 180hp fuel-injected Lycoming IO-360 over the original 150hp engine installed in older Decathlons. Along with a larger engine, the Super Decathlon features a shorter wing, constant speed propellor, and a symmetrical airfoil more suited for aerobatic flight compared to its older counterpart, the Citabria.
Many famous air show pilots including Greg Koontz and Bobby Younkin have flown the Super Decathlon. Bobby Younkin owned this Decathlon prior to 2004, because of this the tail number is still N26BY, Mr. Younkin's original tail number for this airplane.
